HHeatter-Quigley Productions created interesting games in the 60s and 70s. Though the most famous ones are "Hollywood Squares" and "High Rollers", we can honestly credit them with bringing the game of blackjack to game shows with "Gambit".
Noiel Spearman came up with the idea of a netgame for "Gambit" and started running it in 1999. It managed to squeeze out eight games before interest faded in 2001.
"Gambit" is a game that is EASY to duplicate...so long as you have a knack for making questions and a deck of cards. But only Noiel had what it took to give the netgame a try. A battle between two contestants to try and build the better blackjack hand and win two games out of three, "Net Gambit" was a great rendition of the show. They even had on the website the cards and all the graphics reminiscent of the show. Of course, it takes REAL courage to duplicate the bonus game...and Noiel did that, too.
As recently as 2006, Robert McBride revived Net Gambit as a Yahoo! Groups: Netgames exclusive. Though only two games have been played, the simple fact that the revival took place at all makes the game memorable.
Sadly, Noiel seems to have dropped off the face of the internet as of 2003. No one can contact him and he abandoned all the games that he was running...and playing. While we're sure he's all right, we play this netgame in graditude for coming up with a cool netgame.
Tonight, our second Finalist will be decided by the cards as the two Semi-Finalists shuffle up and reach for twenty-one!
